Culinary Aide/Server– St Luke’s Home

Status: Full-Time; Non-Exempt

The Culinary Aide/Server will  assists the cooks and staff in making sure Elders receive nutritious food that looks and tastes good in a clean environment. Culinary aides take food and snack orders and serve Elders in the Dining Room. They also assist in menu planning, maintain Elder meal attendance records and make sure food is served in a clean, healthy, pleasant way. Other tasks are to clean and sanitize dishes, utensils and cookware, and kitchen surfaces prepare the kitchen for inspections and assist with food ordering and storage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Waits on Elders in Dining Room, taking food and drink orders
  • Serves snacks, meals and fluids
  • Prepares fluids and food items using procedures to maintain quality
  • Serves meals using procedures to maintain quality and sanitation
  • Dishes food items to maintain quality of prepared foods and baked goods
  • Puts stock away, which may require lifting, in a manner to prevent food spoilage
  • Cleaning duties using proper procedures specific to the area being cleaned (e.g., dining room, dish area, stock room, kitchen)
  • Wash dishes or cooking utensils following accepted standards of practice
  • Proper storage to maintain quality of prepared food and baked goods
  • Ensures compliance with sanitation standards
  • Follow dress code including proper footwear to prevent accidents
  • Participates on designated committees and meetings
  • Use of dietary equipment, once trained, to chop, blend, puree and cook
  • Follow established policies and procedures
  • Attends all-staff and department meetings to stay informed of the department needs and changes in procedures
  • Special Events – Set-up to break-down as assigned.
  • Deep Cleaning as scheduled (every six month)
  • Other duties as assigned

Required skills and qualifications: 

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Prefer 2-3 years of food service experience, preferably in health care settings
  • Serv Safe – Food Handlers Certification (we can help you get this)
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification, Fingerprint Clearance Card, and TB test
  • Able to pass drug screen
