Executive Director Report
Hello friends and family!
Fall is upon us, thankfully, the humidity will go elsewhere, and we can walk without sweating so much. This “Sizzlin’ Summer” is cooling down to autumn. But what a successful summer it was!
I would like to thank everyone who donated to our Sizzlin’ Summer campaign to raise funds for a new vehicle. Thanks to you, and with appreciation to the Jim Click team, we have a 2018 Dodge Caravan with low mileage, air conditioning, and is super comfortable for our residents. The Elders have already enjoyed several trips and will continue to do so.

Life at St Luke’s Home is busy and exciting. We are looking forward to the Silver Chef Culinary Competition on October 22, 2022, at the MSA Annex. Get your tickets now as soon as you can and see the article below for more info. We have a Golf for the Ages Tournament coming on November 19, 2022. Most exciting of all, we have the Major Renovations kicking off in November.
This time next year, I will be posting beautiful photos of the newly refurbished rooms and common spaces. You can help us with this effort by donating to the Major Gift Campaign. The more funds we raise, the quicker the renovations will be completed and the easier the process will be for our residents.
Afterward it’s all done, the Elders are going to have lots of stories of their adventures, and we will have a big event to showcase our beautiful building and celebrate its completion. We look forward to your participation.
Meanwhile, go outside and enjoy this cooling weather.

Thanks to Empire Beauty School for giving our Elders a little "me" time with hair cuts and manicures. The self-care theme continued with drawing classes, water color, and poetry club.

Rio here sniffing out the best stories from St Luke’s Home and the best Elders ever!
I have found there has been a mighty wind coming around here of late. It’s been all over the weather report and when I go outside, my ears wave in the wind so it must be true. As my grandpa used to say, with mighty winds comes great change. Things are indeed changing for St Luke’s Home! Sure, we all want autumn and cooler temperatures, but we have even more than that happening here.
In November, St Luke’s Home is set to start the Major Renovation! Now, I don’t know if any of you have done any renovations at your house, but it is one of those things you go through simply to get to the other side. As Churchill used to say, “If you’re going through hell, KEEP GOING!” There will be muss, and there will be fuss, but in the end, we hope to have a cleaner, safer, more beautiful home in which we will serve our beloved Elders. Details are still being ironed out, and there is still a dire need for more funding. The more funding received means the less hassle for the Elders.

So, if you see old Rio on the median at Speedway and Campbell with a cardboard sign… oh, wait… that may be against the law. I am a law-abiding dog, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Please save this old boy from doggie jail and send what you can to help us out. I will make you a special deal: I will save a slobbery lick just for you. You can’t get Rio sloppy kisses from anywhere else. Just here. Think of it as a “kissing booth” from your pal Rio. Ok, I admit it, it’s true I love the attention, but I know the affection is mutual. I’ll keep the light on waiting to give those kisses. Extra kisses are only a milk bone away.
As to all the changes coming here at St Luke’s Home, I will just have to keep you in the loop. So far, we have autumn coming, staff changes, Elder changes, major renovations, prep time for seasonal festivities…. Good gracious!
With that, Rio needs a nap.

Donna Martin was a long time caregiver and a favorite of our Elders. Donna worked the night shift, holding down the fort with her capable hands, calm demeanor, and earthy sense of humor. A medical condition took Donna from us far too soon, and we will miss her forever.

Donna

Beautiful person, so loving and kind
Everyone’s friend, yours, and mine
Thoughtful and gracious
Always lent a hand
Helping those who needed her
She would understand
Blessed were all who knew her
Until each day was through
Remembering to say hello
And had a smile for you
Kind words she had for everyone
She gave her very best
Now our dear and loving friend
May you have eternal rest.
