Executive Director Report
|
Welcome to the month of love
but wait there is more!
|
It seems that there is a lot of history behind February. Of course, every 4th year February has 29 days, but it is still the shortest month of the year and, in many places, the coldest month too.
|
|
|
The odds of being born on February 29 is 1 in 1,461. The name “February” comes from the Latin word “februa” this means to cleanse. And February is one of the most misspelled words in the English language.
Ok, now you have some facts, February is not only about love, but also about purification. Spring is right around the corner and St Luke’s Home has done more than spring cleaning, but renovating! Many things are shiny and new. Eleven rooms in the east wing will be ready for residents this month. The dining room is back and full of lively conversation. It feels like love to see everyone enjoying food and laughter.
The renovations are just part of St Luke’s Home plan for a sustainable future. One where we can give more older adults a safe and beautiful place to live. We will now be able to address housing insecurity for folks with up to 80% the area median income of Pima County. This means we can now say “yes” to may Elders we have had to say “no” to in the past because of their income levels. Our mission remains “to provide quality of life for low-income elders to age with dignity in an assisted living community.” We are excited about the future, and I do believe that February is all about LOVE at St Luke’s Home.

In January, the Board of Directors met at the Harmony Hospice Community Room for their annual huddle to plan the long-term strategies for St Luke's Home. Among the discussion included the financial outlook, renovation progress, and elder comfort, but the favorite part of this year's event was voting in a new Board Member.

Anita Bach comes to us as the Director of Procedural Operations at Banner Health with many years of experience in medical and business administration, grant writing, and implementing process improvements. We are delighted to have Anita on the team and look forward to her insights.

Elvis Has Left The Building

You always knew when you were in Teresa’s office because of the thematic presence of Elvis Presley. He was the hunk on her desktop wallpaper. He was the wall clock with the waggling legs that rocked with the tick-tock. He was the cardboard cutout in the corner always dressed in seasonal flare.
After decades of dutiful service at St Luke’s Home, filling more roles than we have space to list here, Teresa Luna has retired. She looks forward to spending more time with her bountiful grandchildren and annoying her husband full time.

Teresa,
for your many years of service,
and on behalf of everyone at St Luke's Home,

Rio here! Last month, I put in a lot of thought into setting realistic resolutions this year and discovered that my ideas stemmed from the same basic concept: Love! Giving and receiving love. Loving my community. Loving my team. Loving myself. I hear that most new year’s resolutions fall apart by February, so I did a self-check on my progress. When enough love is sprinkled around, teamwork sprouts like plants in dirt.

Hm. Nope. I can’t read that either.
Let’s try a translator app. “…Many things have a plurality of parts and are not merely a complete aggregate but instead some kind of a whole beyond its parts….” Yikes! What a mouthful.

Modern speakers say, “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”
Nah. Too corporate.

Rio translation,
"Teamwork!"

|
As a big tree proves the presence of water, teamwork proves a regular showering of love. I'm proud to report we've got lots of that here at St Luke's Home.
|
Daily work done. It's time for Rio to practice some self-love. Nap time!
