State of the Home 2023: A Year of Milestones

The year 2023 proved to be a dynamic and fruitful period for our organization, marked by significant achievements across various facets of our operations. Let’s delve into the key accomplishments that defined our journey.

Financials:

In the financial realm, meticulous allocation of resources was a cornerstone of our success. Programs took the lead, constituting 65% of expenses, followed by Management/Clerical at 26%, and Fundraising at 9%. This strategic distribution paved the way for a balanced financial landscape.

Fundraisers:

Our fundraising endeavors made an indelible impact on our revenue stream. Events such as the Southern Arizona Roadrunners Fun Run in March, Baile de Gracias in April, Golf Fore the Elders Tournament in September, and Silver Chef in October collectively contributed an impressive $51,550 to our funds. These events not only bolstered our financial standing but also fostered community engagement.

Renovations:

Undertaking a significant renovation project with Lloyd Construction Company, we agreed to a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) of $2.5 million. Swift action ensued, with weekly renovation meetings, Town Halls, and special sessions engaging Elders and Staff to prepare for potential disruptions. Remarkably, the project, initiated in November 2022, concluded ahead of schedule in November 2023, costing us $2.394 million—below the maximum price.

Board Accomplishments:

The Board played a pivotal role in steering our organization towards success. Approving the GMP, strategizing the use of investment monies, and conducting a retreat in January 2023 to discuss a Sustainable Funding Model underscored their commitment. Additional achievements included the establishment of a Quality Management Dashboard, the revision of Board Policies and Bylaws, and the creation of the guiding document “Pillars of Service.”

Leadership Accomplishments:

Leadership spearheaded a Major Gift Campaign, resulting in an impressive $1,736,993 in funds raised. Proactive communication ensured that residents and staff were well-informed about the renovation process through individual and group meetings. Culinary Director Sal earned accolades by winning Silver Chef and People’s Choice at the Taste of Chocolate”. Technological upgrades, a national conference presentation by the Executive Director, a collaborative Holiday Boutique and Party, completion of the Qualified Contract process, and a compelling St. Luke’s video for marketing and grant writing were among the achievements. Notably, all staff underwent mandatory trainings, including Mental Health First Aid, enhancing our commitment to comprehensive care.

As a testament to our collaborative efforts, a $300,000 match for renovations was secured after a successful presentation to Hillman. In summary, 2023 stands as a testament to our resilience, foresight, and unwavering dedication to St. Luke’s mission. We look forward to building upon this success in the coming years.
