October will be a big month for St Luke’s Home. Renovations begin mid-November, and the Elders are preparing for the construction. They are taking this endeavor as an adventure worthy to support their futures and the future of St Luke’s Home.
It is going to be a better, safer, more economical, and beautiful place when the work is complete. We are ready to face the challenges ahead with patience, grace, and optimism!

The Silver Chef Culinary Competition is on Saturday October 22, 2022, from noon-3pm at the MSA Annex 267 Avenida del Convento. Eight chefs will prepare heritage and local dishes for our tasting pleasure. Local celebrity chef judges will crown one chef as The Silver Chef of 2022!

Sniffing out the best stories

My favs are bacon, cheese, bones, bacon, and of course, bacon!
On a recent play date, my friends and I talked about food and learned we have different tastes and diets. I can't eat grains because of my tummy. My assistant, Roscoe, can't have meat because of his liver. (I dunno how he survives without bacon.) The lady of our gang, Frida, is so small (I thought she was a cat when I first met her) she can only eat tiny bites. And our buddy Elijah, well, he eats everything... whether he's supposed to or not.
But the four of us agree -- we need flavor!
Our two-legged friends at St Luke's Home need flavor too. I heard that, in other places, they get mostly just oatmeal and Jello. How boring! It makes me really appreciate the hard work of Executive Chef Sal Miramontes, Winner of the Silver Chef 2020.
Silver Chefs can't compete in that TV show because they can't open their dining rooms to just anyone.
But Silver Chefs have it harder than Iron Chefs. Chefs of assisted living have to get super creative to serve over 90 flavorful meals every month, with special diet options, within budget, and still keep from serving the same dishes over and over again to their captive audiences. Sal must be a genius!
And the competing chefs at Silver Chef 2022 cook in the same scrumptious league as he does. I can't wait to taste their delicious artwork at the October event. Even with our special diets, I'm confident the St Luke's Home Dog Squad will manage to lick all the plates clean.
